The purpose of the Living History Association of Mecklenburg, Inc. is to educate

people of the life and times of a civil war soldier through presentations, living history, and battlefield reenactments. We portray the 13th NC Co B, 136th NYSV and a Field Hospital. We are available for school presentations and Living History programs.

We use accurate reproductions of equipment and uniforms to inform and enlighten North Carolinians of their forefathers.

The 2nd national Flag of the 13th NC was captured at The Battle of the Wilderness, May 6, 1864. Cpl Grief Mason was rifle butted to death while grasping the flag by Sgt Stephen Rought of the 141st Pa. This was the 1st flag captured for Gen US Grant in the Overland Campaign. On May 3rd, 2014, this scenario was re-created with the help of the 141st PA troops at the 150th Wilderness reenactment at Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It is on display in the Museum of History, Raleigh, NC.
